Overview:

Story Time 2.0 brings beloved children’s literature to life through discussion, imagination, movement, art, music, and theatrical play. Students will explore the choices, challenges, and values portrayed by memorable story characters while connecting those lessons to their own lives and experiences.

Through creative projects, songs, dramatic performances, and thoughtful conversations, children will build a deeper understanding of each story. The goal is to help great literary heroes leap off the page and inspire courage, kindness, honesty, perseverance, and other meaningful character traits.

Skills to be learned:

  • Listen carefully and recall important story details

  • Identify characters, settings, problems, and solutions

  • Discuss the values and choices portrayed in a story

  • Connect story lessons to real-life situations

  • Recognize character traits such as courage, kindness, and honesty

  • Express ideas through speaking, acting, art, music, and movement

  • Use imagination during dramatic play and storytelling

  • Retell stories in the correct sequence

  • Practice empathy by considering different characters’ perspectives

  • Work cooperatively during performances and group activities

  • Build confidence while sharing ideas with others

  • Develop a lasting appreciation for quality children’s literature

*Families involved in this class will be asked to sign a code of conduct agreement so that they know there is an expectation to act responsibly during instruction at PPS.

Timeline

This class begins Aug. 31st, 2026, and runs until Dec. 7th, 2026. This class runs every Monday from 1130am-1220pm with class breaks (no school) the weeks of Sept. 7th and Nov. 23rd for a total of 13 classes.
