Overview:
The tradition of Western literature has often been likened to a great conversation unfolding across time between the great thinkers and writers of each age. Students will select works to read and engage with the ideas found within this great conversation through relaxed, book-group-style discussions.
Skills Learned:
Read thoughtfully and identify important ideas within a text
Participate respectfully in group discussions
Ask meaningful questions about literature
Support their opinions with examples from the reading
Listen carefully and respond to different perspectives
Compare ideas across authors, time periods, and works
Recognize major themes, character choices, and moral questions
Express ideas clearly and confidently
Develop stronger critical-thinking and communication skills
Build a deeper appreciation for great literature

*Families involved in this class will be asked to sign a code of conduct agreement so that they know there is an expectation to act responsibly during instruction at PPS.
Timeline
This class begins Sept. 2nd, 2026 and runs until Dec. 9th, 2026 . This class runs every Wednesday from 2pm-2:50pm with a class break (no school) the week of Nov. 25th for a total of 14 classes.
